\nWhen Daniel Goleman and his co-authors Richard Boyatzkis and Annie McKee wrote in 2002 about the impact of emotional intelligence in leadership roles, the typical high professional used to work in hierarchical structures, may it be in line or project organisations. Because of his parents and grandparents told him about invasive bosses or even about beating teachers he was already happy to bring his opinion when asked. Times changed but the way one leads \u2013 as Goleman and colleagues stated \u2013 still produces resonances from the group led.<\/p>\n

Here we are. The current journeys to organise work in balance with the needs of young professionals and customers in a VUCA world will go on. Virtual teams, fluid organisations, network economy? There will not be a final, new standard way to work because the bulk of standardised work will \u2013 sooner or later \u2013 be done by machines.
\nBut as long as people are part of the working processes (whatever type they will belong to) leaders have to sense, know and manage themselves for better sensing, knowing and managing others.<\/p>\n
